Your Guide

Pre-Care & Aftercare

Everything you need to know before and after your waxing appointment.

Before Your Appointment

Pre-Care Instructions

A little preparation goes a long way. Follow these steps for the smoothest, most comfortable waxing experience.

01

Let It Grow

Your hair needs to be at least a quarter inch long for the wax to grip effectively. That is roughly 2 to 3 weeks of growth after your last shave, or 4 to 6 weeks after your last wax. Resist the urge to shave between appointments.

02

Exfoliate Gently

One to two days before your appointment, gently exfoliate the area with a soft scrub or washcloth. This removes dead skin cells and helps prevent ingrown hairs. Do not exfoliate on the day of your wax.

03

Skip the Products

On the day of your appointment, avoid applying lotions, oils, deodorant, or heavy moisturizers to the area being waxed. Clean, dry skin allows the wax to adhere properly for the best results.

04

Dress Comfortably

Wear loose, breathable clothing to your appointment, especially if you are getting a Brazilian or bikini wax. Tight clothing can cause friction and irritation on freshly waxed skin.

05

Shower Beforehand

A warm shower before your appointment helps open pores and soften hair, making removal smoother and more comfortable. Just make sure your skin is fully dry before arriving.

06

Manage Discomfort

If you are concerned about sensitivity, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever about 30 minutes before your appointment. Avoid caffeine on the day of your wax, as it can increase sensitivity.

After Your Appointment

Aftercare Instructions

Your skin needs a little extra love after waxing. Follow these steps to keep it smooth, calm, and healthy.

01

Keep It Cool

For the first 24 to 48 hours, avoid hot baths, saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs. Warm showers are fine, but keep the water temperature moderate on waxed areas.

02

Skip the Gym

Avoid heavy exercise and activities that cause sweating for 24 to 48 hours after your wax. Sweat can irritate freshly waxed skin and open follicles.

03

No Sun Exposure

Stay out of direct sunlight and avoid tanning beds for at least 48 hours. Freshly waxed skin is more vulnerable to UV damage and sunburn.

04

Wear Loose Clothing

Continue wearing loose, breathable fabrics for the rest of the day. Tight underwear, leggings, and jeans can cause friction and irritation on sensitive skin.

05

Moisturize Daily

Starting 24 to 48 hours after your wax, begin moisturizing the area daily with a lightweight, fragrance-free lotion or natural oil. Hydrated skin is smoother and less prone to ingrown hairs.

06

Exfoliate Regularly

After 48 to 72 hours, begin gently exfoliating 2 to 3 times per week. This is the single most effective way to prevent ingrown hairs and keep your skin smooth between appointments.

Important

What to Avoid

×

Do Not Shave Between Appointments

Shaving disrupts the hair growth cycle and can make your next wax less effective and more uncomfortable. Let the hair grow naturally.

×

Avoid Fragranced Products

For 24 to 48 hours after waxing, avoid applying products with fragrance, alcohol, retinol, or glycolic acid to the waxed area. These can cause irritation and stinging.

×

No Swimming

Avoid pools, oceans, and hot tubs for at least 24 hours. Chlorine and bacteria can irritate or infect open follicles.

×

Medication Awareness

Certain medications can affect your skin's sensitivity during waxing. Please let your esthetician know if you are using Accutane, Retin-A, Differin, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, or any prescription skin treatments.

Common Questions

Care FAQ

How do I prevent ingrown hairs after waxing?

Exfoliate gently 2 to 3 times per week starting 48 hours after your wax. Keep the area moisturized daily. Avoid shaving between waxing appointments. Wearing breathable fabrics also helps reduce friction that can lead to ingrown hairs.

Can I wax while on my period?

Yes, you can absolutely get waxed during your period. Just know that your skin may be a bit more sensitive. If possible, scheduling for the week after your period can result in a more comfortable experience.

How long should I wait between waxing appointments?

We recommend coming in every 4 to 6 weeks. Consistent waxing trains your hair growth cycle, leading to finer, sparser regrowth and a smoother experience over time.

What if I have sensitive skin?

Let your esthetician know about any skin sensitivities before your appointment. We use premium soft wax that is gentler on sensitive skin. Some redness after waxing is normal and typically subsides within a few hours.

Is it normal to see redness or bumps after waxing?

Mild redness and small bumps are completely normal, especially after your first wax or in sensitive areas. These typically calm down within a few hours to a day. If irritation persists beyond 48 hours, reach out to your esthetician for guidance.

What medications should I tell my esthetician about?

Please inform us if you are using Accutane, Retin-A, Differin, glycolic acid products, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid treatments, or any prescription skin medications. Some of these can make your skin more fragile and affect waxing results.
